Home made hamburgers

Usually I prefer to prepare my own hamburgers than buying them at a fast food place or market. I know if you prepare them at home it will be more work, but in the end they taste better and you can have a healthier hamburger with good ingredients. This recipe takes a bit more time but the result will be really good.

This recipe is for 4 or 5 persons and the time you need 30-40 minutes.
The ingredients you will need are:

  • 200 gr ground beef
  • 200 gr ground pork
  • 3 tbsp bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 chopped red onion
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 red onion in thin slices
  • 100 gr bacon
  • 100 gr cheddar cheese
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 4 eggs (or more, one per hamburger)
  • 1tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 80 gr rucola salad or lettuce
  • 3 or 4 hamburger buns
Hamburger:

In a bowl mix all the ingredients ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, egg, olive oil, milk, ground cumin, dried rosemary, dried thyme, chopped garlic cloves, chopped red onion, salt and pepper to taste. If you need more bread crumbs you can add a bit more but the mixture should not be dry, but moistured.

To give shape to the hamburger, I prefer to use a metal cooking ring so I can give them a perfect round shape. You can choose how thick you want the hamburger and also how big depending on the cooking ring. If you do not have one, just prepare a ball and then smash it and give it a round shape.

Pour in a fry pan the thin sliced red onion and add the sugar, balsamic vinegar and a bit of oil.
Cook it to medium heat until the onion is soft and caramelized. Set aside.

Fry the bacon.

Fry the eggs.

Cut the buns and at last fry or grill the hamburgers.
All the ingredients are ready to assemble our delicious hamburger. You can assemble them the order you like it. I like to put rucola salad or lettuce on the bottom, then the fried egg, the bacon, the hamburger and on top the cheddar cheese. I also like to put some mayonnaise or mustard on the bun.

Our hamburgers are ready. You can serve them with French fries or anything you like. On the picture you can see it with a hasselback potato but it was too much (the potato taste was too strong to be eaten with the hamburger).

By the way, the bread in this hamburger was home made but the recipe did not convince me too much. The bread was good but too dense as a hamburger bun.

Hope you like this hamburger.

If you have any suggestion or advice please tell me. Thanks! See you in my next post :)

    Fernando
