Pork Goulash

Today I prepared goulash. It easy and really good. These kind of stews make me feel with extra energy and good mood because it reminds me about those days with my family at home in winter and my mother's food. This Goulash is good for these cold days when you need some warm food.

This is a Hungarian soup or stew of meat and vegetables and it is popular in the Balkans and central Europe. This recipe needs longer time to be prepared than other stews, but in the end you will have a really delicious Goulash with tender meet and good sauce.

The time you need to prepare this goulash is around 1 hour and 50 minutes. This is for 4 or 5 persons.
For the goulash you need:
  • olive oil
  • 180 gr bacon
  • 600 gr pork
  • 2 red onion
  • 5 garlic cloves chopped
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley (bit more to spread on top in the end)
  • 500 ml beef broth
  • 500 ml white wine
  • 1 1/2 tbsp paprika powder
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • salt and pepper
  • 4 potatoes

Put oil in the pot and fry the bacon until brown and golden.

Cut the pork in 3 cm squares.

Fry the pork with the bacon until brown and golden.

Cut the onions in thin slices.

Add the onions, chopped garlic and parsley.

Cook it for around 5 to 7 minutes at medium heat.

Pour the beef broth and the white wine.

When it starts to boil add paprika powder, tomato paste, cumin and season with salt and pepper. Cover the pot with the lead and cook for 50 minutes at medium heat.

After the 50 minutes have passed, open the lid and add the potatoes and continue cooking for it aproximally 30 minutes more until the potatoes are cooked. Check the taste and correct salt and pepper if needed.

The goulash is ready! You can eat it with rice or bread. When you serve spread parsley on the top, it give a good touch and flavor.

I can recommend you red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon). It matches very well with stews in general and in this case with goulash.

Enjoy your meal and I hope you like it.

Thank you! See you in my next recipe :)
